Sheelah-Grace Murthy currently lives in Chicago
and presents Selling Shakti at the Colonial Arcade on Sunday May 4.
She has recently received her MFA in performance from The School of the
Art Institute of Chicago. Set in a video and film installation, Murthy
takes the audience on a "journey" to uncover her identity and
explore the misuse of spirituality. Murthy dresses in a plastic sari and
competes with t.v. monitors playing game shows, old family super 8's and
samples of deconstructed Hindi movies to find authenticity and wisdom.
She investigates the selling of religion and and blurs the Eastern and
Western cultures that divide her identity.
