Two artists and professional chefs from New York, Jamie
Oh and Susumu Yonaguni, bring their delicious performance to a storefront
in the Colonial Arcade on Thursday May 1. Entitled America, Oh dresses
as a candy-covered Statue of Liberty, and she and Yonaguni build an American
flag out of chocolate kisses and other confections which the audience is
invited to eat. Oh and Yonaguni explore the myth of the "American
Dream" in Asia, where they, as children, imagined America to be as
sweet and sugar-coated as candy. They use food in their performance work
as a display of cultural identity and to encourage audience participation.
