Ivan Rados

"self sacrifice"

Ivan Rados of Bosnia has been seen internationally in his performance work, and has exhibited his paintings and sculpture worldwide. Currently living in exile in the United Kingdom, Rados presents in Cleveland the performance work that caused his expulsion. "Self-Sacrifice" is a ritualistic action aimed to reinvest symbols with meaning and relevance. Rados will walk the streets of Cleveland carrying a large red pentagram (five-pointed star) on his shoulders then concludes the piece by burning the pentagram in a death rite. "Self-Sacrifice" attempts to expose the real meaning of the red pentagram as the symbol of the human being and the five elements rather than its current political implications. At last year's Performance Open, Rados performed an excerpt of his piece "The Transparent Man" to instant acclaim; he returns this year with the complete work.
