Liala Voss

"Fate/Fortune/Female"

Cleveland Performance/installation artist Laila Voss has performed in the PAF numeros times, and has exhibited her sculpture and visual art widely. "Fate/Fortune/Female" brings together two ancient methods of divination and a universal craft: The I-Ching, the Tarot, and pottery. The performance begins and ends with the simple and mundane chore of sweeping. Involving four women, the duration of the piece is uncertain as eash decides when her action is complete. Self-actualization, control over one's life and being a woman in the late twentieth century are questions addressed in this task-oriented work.
