Development Organizations This federally mandated organization manages the coordination and development of the Ohio & Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor. A goal of this organization is to identify significant natural, historic, cultural, industrial and recreational resources bring them together through bikeways and other creative connections. General Information In addition to its vast permanent collection, this library provides many services over the internet. Encyclopedia of Cleveland History - Entry for Ohio & Erie Canal The searchable WWW edition contains the complete text of the printed Encyclopedia, as well as regularly updated new material and high resolution maps and images. Annals of Cleveland - A Depression-Era Project of the WPA Cleveland Digital Library's compilation of the canal-related entries from this important historical resource.

Historical Societies and Collections Founded in 1885 "to promote a knowledge of archaeology and history, especially in Ohio," The Ohio Historical Society collects, preserves, and interprets information about the prehistory and history of Ohio, and the cultural and natural contexts of that information. University of Akron Archival Services - Ohio Canal Society Collection In addition to preserving the records of the University of Akron, Archival Services is the depository of records and other material of several organizations, including the Canal Society of Ohio. Western Reserve Historical Society This historical society was founded in 1867 "to preserve and present the history of all of the people of northeast Ohio." The largest privately supported regional historical society in the nation, the WRHS operates historic sites and maintains a library of histories, records, and papers concerning the development of Cleveland and the Western Reserve. Parks and Attractions Cleveland Metroparks - Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation This metropolitan park follows a portion of the Ohio & Erie Canal. Here, visitors can find opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and fishing in the midst of the Greater Cleveland area. The reservation includes interpretive graphics about its natural and cultural resources. Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area The Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area of the National Park Services preserves 33,000 acre along twenty two miles of the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron, including a portion of the Ohio & Erie Canal. A renovated canal-era tavern houses exhibits including a lock model, and lock 38 located nearby is demonstrated for visitors. Rides on a replica canal-era boat along a restored section of the Ohio & Erie Canal from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and demonstrations of 19th century crafts are among the attractions at this restored canal-era village.
