Arthur & Edith Neiger Memorial Collection

A collection of books, mainly first editions of English literature dating from the 19th century, donated by Michael A. Paller in memory of his grandparents, Arthur and Edith Neiger.

Arthur A. Neiger practiced law in Cleveland for fifty years and created an extensive collection of fine books, mainly from American literature, a large number of 78 and 33 1/3 rpm recordings in classical and romantic music, and a smaller number of books and prints in the fine arts.

Edith Alper Neiger, born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania and Canton, Ohio, put herself through Western Reserve University Mather College, while teaching English to foreign students at the old Outhwaite Night School, where she met her husband, Arthur A. Neiger. She later raised three daughters while returning to the work force as a welfare worker during the Depression years.

Ruth Neiger Paller, eldest daughter of Arthur and Edith Neiger, raised three sons single-handedly and later served as Secretary in the Nursing and Community Services Departments of Cuyahoga Community College. more...

All titles in Special Collections have book plates. Other titles donated by Mr. Paller are in the circulating collection.
