NOTICE OF PROFESSIONAL VACANCY
LIBRARIAN, FASHION LIBRARY AND SPECIAL COLLECTIONS AND ARCHIVES (TERM
APPOINTMENT)
This librarian position will serve in two areas: in the Fashion Library and
in Special Collections and Archives.
Fashion Library: This position will report to the Head of the Architecture
and Fashion Libraries and provide onsite management of the daily operations
of the Fashion Library. This includes providing direct assistance and
instruction to the library’s primary clientele, overseeing all
circulation-related functions, managing print and electronic resources, and
assisting with the hiring, training, and evaluation of student assistants.
The position also participates in Web site development and management of
the special collections housed in the library.
Special Collections and Archives: Under the supervision of the Curator of
Special Collections and Archives, this position will contribute to the
ongoing efforts to appraise, process, and provide effective access to
materials in Special Collections and Archives, especially collections that
are part of University Archives. This includes creating archival and
manuscript finding aids, including Web-based guides and providing
assistance to both onsite and offsite users. Special projects may include
exhibitions, preservation, and digitization initiatives.
Environment:
The Kent State University Libraries have a collection of over 2 million
volumes and hold membership in the Association of Research Libraries and
the Center for Research Libraries. Kent State University is a founding
member of OCLC and of OhioLINK (), Ohio's statewide
information system. Innovative Interfaces is used for the integrated
library system.
Salary and Rank:
$36,666. Faculty status, Instructor rank. Term position.

Required Qualifications:
1. MLS from an ALA-accredited program. 2. Experience in a library,
research center, or museum setting. 3. Demonstrated commitment to public
service. 4. Knowledge of a broad range of print and electronic resources,
including research databases and Internet resources. 5. Effective
organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. 6. Flexibility
and initiative. 7. Ability to work independently and as a member of a
team.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in processing special collections or archival materials. 2.
Web page development. 3. Experience in daily service operations in a
relevant setting. 4. Supervisory experience.
